Toivottavasti hinta tulee olemaan järkevä. 200€ on kyllä ehdoton maksimi. Googlella kun nopeasti katsoin, niin verkkokaupoissa hinta (alimmillaan) näyttäisi olevan 150€ (+toimituskulut).

Akkukestoa n 6-8h videonkatselussa kahdella AA-paristolla.

Muuten vaikuttaa erittäin mielenkiintoiselta ja menee ehdottomasti harkintaan. Pitänee samalla hankkia myös vähintään 1Gt SD-muistikortti:

Riippuu täysin hinnasta. PSP maksaa jotain 280-290€ (näytön resoluutio 480x272). Lisäksi Sonyn muistitikut ovat selvästi hinnakkaampia kuin vastaavankokoiset SD-muistikortit.

Mikäli pelit eivät kiinnosta ja tarvitsee vain kannettavan video-soittimen, niin n 200€ hintaan GP2X kuulostaa mielenkiintoiselta (320x240 resoluutio riittää kyllä 3.5" näytölle). Päälle n 55€ hintainen 1Gt muistikortti, niin lopullinen hinta on sellainen 255€. Lisäksi bokuksena avoin ympäristö ja siten mahdollisuus tukea kaikkia tarpeellisia kodekkeja. Myös AA-paristojen käyttö voi olla joko etu tai haitta. Etu se on jos lähtee pidemmälle matkalle, eikä ole mahdollisuutta ladata akkuja välillä. Ottaa vain mukaan riittävän läjän paristoja. Toisaalta voi halutessaan käyttää ladattavia akkuja.

Mainittakaan että tuo vertailu on turhan puolueellinen, eli kyllä se PSP on teknisesti selvästi parempi laite. Täytyy kuitenkin ottaa huomioon että toinen on suljettu ympäristö, jossa voitot revitään peleistä ja elokuvista kun taas toinen avoin ympäristö jossa voittojen pitää tulla itse laitteesta. Mutta edelleenkin, jos hinta on sopiva niin eiköhän GP2X:llekin sopiva markkinarako löydy.

Siis tuo nand-flashmuistihan on sellasta muistia ettei tieto katoa kun kone/konsoli sammutetaan, jollen AIVAN väärin muista. :) Juurihan tuota muistia liputettiin jonkun uuden emolevyn piirisarjan yhteydessä.. ;)

That nand-flashmemory is a new kind of flash-memory.. errmm.. what I mean is that if I haven't understood things wrong, the nand-flash keeps the data stored even when you shut down the computer/console. I read somewhere about that nand-thingie because some manufacturer has integrated it to their motherboard. ;)

Konsolille on pelejä, mutta ei mtn EA:n taikka VU:n "huippu" pelejä, vaan ihan näitä linux pelejä ja emulaattorilla toimivia pelejä.

ota huomioon että näytönohjain, prosessori, resoluutio ym .jutut on täysin erilaisia pc linuxiin verrattuna. Eli et saa suoraan linux pelejä toimimaan.

WooHoo tällä onkin kiva pelata kaikkia (EMU)klassikoita! (C-64, GBA, Atari, Amiga, varmaan PSP:kin;)
Varmaan Amigan pelitkin saadaan toimimaan rivakasti (PSP kellotettunakin on kyllä semmoinen MOPO emulaattoreissa (esim.Amiga)että ketä kiinnostaa!)

Actually there is only 20MB space left in the internal 64MB flash memory, since rest of it is reserved for OS and stuff like that. So you really have to buy a SD memory card.

Eli sisäisestä 64Mt muistista on vapaana vain 20Mt, koska käyttöjärjestelmä jne. vievät lopun tilan. Eli SD-muistikortti on pakollinen hankinta.

Mielenkiintoinen laite, mutta pari seikkaa epäilyttää:
-hinta
-laitteen toimivuus
-käytön monipuolisuus/helppous
-Omien pelien tekeminen

Eli minulle ei ainakaan käytännössä ole tälle käyttöä, Linux pohjaisuus asiassa eniten kiinnostaa, ja olisi toki mukavaa tutustua tämän kyseisen vempeleen käyttöön. Jos joku tuon nyt sitten ostaa, niin ihmeessä laittakaa viestiä toimivuudesta sun muusta :-)

A small hard drive, even 2gb would not break the bank and they could still sell at a competitive price.

Well, I had the pleasure of owning the predecessor to this, the GP32. Ever tried to fit a 2hour movie on 128MB SMC? :) Worked quite well, actually, and the emulation/homebrew scene was strong enough for me to part myself with 185€ of money for pre-order of GP2X. Currently, there are some great ports on the pipeline, and some absolutely fantastic emulators, from your basic NES to NeoGeo CD, to Amiga. When going by MHZ, this machine has enough juice to run FPSEce, a free PSX emulator, at what level, remains to be seen... A very strong community, and I'm told, that pre-orders are about 3000 units... If that's anything to go by, GP2X will get, like, a whole percent or so of the handheld market.

Some of the greatest minds of 21'st century are developing for the machine. :)

Oh, one thing. Linux compatibility is a great asset to this. A GB-emulator was ported to the device in 30 minutes...

For me, that is if I'm going to get this thing, the XviD/DivX player is the most important property. It needs't to work well and also have a support for .srt and/or .sub subtitles. I'm probably going to get only 1Gt SD-card since 2Gt parts are still quite expensive. And I really don't have that urgent need to get any portable player anyway so I'm going to wait until next year.

The most interesting 'emulator' for me is the ScummVM for GP2x. I have bought almost every Lucas Film/Arts adventure game there is and I love most of them. Especially first two Monkey Island titles. DOTT, S&M are great games also. As are those Indiana Jones games. What a great way to kill some time. Since, as far as I know, there is a fully working ScummVM for GP32, it should be a peace of cake for GP2x.

I think there is also pretty good Sega Genesis/Megadrive emulator for GP32, so I expect to get even a little better one for GP2x. It might be nice to play games like Sonic series and Ecco the Dolphin since it has been something like 10 years since I last played them. Well, I actually tested if my MD still works few years back and I have to say musics were just horrible. So I might not be able to stand listening to them. ;-)

An finally there is the one and only Amiga. I don't think there are ever going to be prefect emulator for GP2x that plays games like Lionheart, Shadow of the beast 1/2/3 etc. But doesn't really matter since those games were not that good anyway, just graphically astounding. I have to say I still love the musics in SOTB and I have tried to play them about a year back in WinUAE and they worked pretty well.

Someone is trying to make Ultima VII to run on this machine too, which should be great. I have never really played Ultimas (expect underworld and U9), so maybe I could kill some time with that too.

I would really like to see Jagged Alliance 1/2 on this thing, but I'm not sure if they are feasible.

Okey, enough BS. Now I'm just going to wait and see how well this GP2x console is going to sell and should I get it before that bus trip to france. I read somewhere (probably GP32X forums as Jarska333 advertised ;-) that GP32 units were sold ca. 30k pieces, so I hope there will be a (little) more GP2x's sold.

You can attach a Secure Digital Wifi-card to the machine. Of course, one needs a driver and a browser...
